I'm a full-time professional musician and part-time dancer in New York City, and I will be accompanying my husband to Qatar this fall. Therefore, I'm seeking work in music and/or dance in Qatar. Here's my information: City, Country: New York, USA, and Doha, Qatar. Description: I play music of medieval and renaissance Europe on the hurdy-gurdy, a stringed instrument that was invented about a thousand years ago. It has an ancient sound, like a combination of a bagpipe and a violin. I also play traditional dance music from many cultures, including the British Isles, Eastern Europe, the Balkans, and the Middle East. Since the hurdy-gurdy is such an unusual instrument, I can do a half-hour presentation that fascinates everyone, from children to adults. Also, the hurdy gurdy is great for providing authentic medieval or renaissance background music at any historic or fantasy themed event. Although strenuous to play, I can play for as many as four hours a day, (with some breaks) which delights dancers at dance parties. For quieter music, I also play mandola, a small European stringed instrument, and cumbus, an oud-like Turkish stringed instrument, while singing traditional folk songs from many cultures. These instruments make pleasant background music at a restaurant, reception, or gallery opening. I also am an experienced percussionist, specializing in Arabic and Turkish percussion, and accompanying many forms of dance, from cabaret belly dancers to Balkan line dancers to New England contra dancers. While I usually play music to accompany many kinds of dance in clubs and dance halls in New York City and the northeast US, I recently performed in the orchestra in a play, Mother Courage and Her Children, which starred Meryl Streep and Kevin Kline. I am also a dancer, trained in both Turkish and Arabic belly dance traditions. As I am very fit and flexible, I perform an energetic show, and since I am a musician, I always fit the music very well. I am 5'4", 103 pounds, 33 years old (although I look much younger), and look somewhat Middle Eastern, because of my mixed Greek and Eastern European ancestry.
