Piano & Guitar

Fanny Koutzarova (cembalo, piano) and Rossen Balkanski (classical guitar) founded their duet in 2003 after years of successful solo careers. Their repertoire consists of different styles and composers, such as Gordani, Vivaldi, Carlos de Seixas, Bokerini, Tedescu, Leo Brawer, Otte and others.

In 2004 Fanny and Rossen played duo Cembalo and Classical Guitar for the first time in Bulgaria. The Bulgarian National Radio recorded in concert their Baroque Music Series, held at the prestigious "Bulgaria Concert Hall".

The duet has performed concerts in Greece, Austria, Macedonia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Poland. Their latest concert earned the artists a list of invitations for following concerts abroad. In Bulgaria a series of concerts were held at the cities of Plovdiv, Dobrich and Sofia.

Fanny, born in 1971, began her piano education at the age of five. In 1990 she successfully completed her studies at the National Music School "L.Pipkov". There she was a student of professor Bogomil Starshenov, professor Liuba Encheva and professor Milena Mollova.

In 1996 she graduated from the Bulgarian Music Academy "P.Vladigerov" where she completed her Masters degree. She also studied Chamber Music from professor Victor Chuchkov and attended numerous master classes.

Her first recital was at the age of 12 and she played with the orchestra of the National Radio at the age of 13. Fanny played premiers of Bulgarian, Swedish and Israeli music.
In 1997 the National Radio recorded in concert her first playing of Unknown Bulgarian music by Vasil Bojinov and Menahem Bensusan a premier for the country.

The Bulgarian National Television channel "7 Days" along with other TV stations and Bulgarian National Radio recorded, in concert, her playing in the years to follow. Fanny's repertoire consists of Piano and Chamber music (different styles and ages). She has won many prizes in international competitions in Bulgaria and abroad.

Rossen, born in 1968, began his first steps into the world of music in the Sofia Boys Choir and began his guitar education at age 11. As a student in the National Music School "L.Pipkov" Rossen was a National guitar competition winner. In 1982 Rossen won the third prize at the International Guitar Competition Kutna Hora in the Check Republic. In 1989 he won his first national composer's prize for his Three Bulgarian Pieces.

Rossen graduated from the Bulgarian Music Academy "P.Vladigerov". In 2000 he completed his Masters degree in classical guitar and was invited to teach at the Academy. Nowadays he is the one and only classical guitar teacher there.

Rossen won several more prizes as a guitarist, as well as a composer. For his composition Three Miniatures he took the first prize at the II Academic Competition in the city of Plovdiv. In the same year he won the International Performers Competition.

World-class publishing houses, like BIM, Daminus, Cahier de la guitare, etc issue his author's compositions. A lot of leading guitarists play his compositions as well. Rossen is a member of the Union of the Bulgarian Composers and a member of the Board of Directors of the Guitarists Association in Bulgaria.
