The Conventional Steel Drum Band is usually a 5 - 6 piece band (but can be bigger) and comprises of a lead tenor pan, chord pans, electric bass guitar, percussion and standard drum kit. In a conventional band the pans (steel drums) are on stands, and amplification is needed. This style is suitable for stage shows and other performances where a specified area is available for the band to set up.
The Traditional Steel Drum Band is usually 5 piece and comprises of a lead tenor pan, two chord pans, a bass pan and percussion. These steel pans are worn on straps around the neck and need no amplification, therefore the band is totally mobile! This syle is perfect for parades, pool-side parties and for situations where the band needs to move quickly from one venue to another.
For more intimate situations, a lead tenor pan and a percussionist are all you need to create that romantic Caribbean holiday atmosphere.
